The Common Man creator RK Laxman passed away

The Common Man creator RK Laxman passed away. He was 93.  Rasipuram Krishnaswami Laxman was a cartoonist, illustrator, and comedian from India. He is best known for his work The Common Man and his daily cartoon, "You Said It." which began in The Times of India in 1951.


He was born in Mysore. His father was a headmaster and Laxman was the youngest of six children. His older brother is the famous novelist R K Narayan.

Even before he could read, Laxman was engrossed by illustrations in magazines such as The Strand Magazine, Punch, Bystander, Wide World, and Tit-Bits. He was soon drawing on his own, on his home's boards, walls and doors, and doodling caricatures of his school teachers. Praised for his drawing of a peepal leaf by a friend, he started thinking of himself as an artist in the making.
